Happy Chanukah!
December 7th, 2004 04:01 pmCan I just say how very much I enjoyed watching National Treasure this weekend? Talk about a fun movie! I mean, how can you get any better than a bunch of wonderfully passionate history buffs running around in an Indiana Jones-type adventure? And Riley wins my prize for the sweetest, most endearingly ultra-geek nerd sidekick eveh. Catch his little foot-stomp of frustration in the scene at the clothing store. And then there's Boromir Sean Bean as the villain. He just keeps getting these roles where he's too damn tempted by power/wealth/saving his city.
We in my little family have grown inordinately fond of these way-cool, impossible heist movies. I think it started with The Italian Job, then continued with Paycheck and Ocean's Eleven, and now this. I know it's a classic movie theme; any recommendations for some of those great old theft stories?
And here it is, the first night of Chanukah. I'll be frying my first round of latkes when I get home. Sunday we'll have about fourteen or fifteen people over for the latkes and matzo ball soup. They won't quite fit, but we'll manage -- and I'll get to use all twelve settings of my wedding china, too! It's one of the few occasions where I break out all the china and crystal and make a real pretty table. I sprinkle those gold-foil wrapped Chanukah-gelt candies all over the table; it's a nice touch (and it's dessert, too!).
Over Thanksgiving weekend I found the perfect menorah for us -- you could call it the Lord of the Rings menorah. It's black wrought metal, shaped like a tree with the two branches going off to either side to hold the candles. There are smaller, delicate branches all over, with tiny crystal globes on the end. Very Middle-Earthy, very pretty. Can't wait to see how it looks lit up with candles.
And last:
For the lovely pressie and music and card!
And:
For the sweet card!
