Happy Saturday!
December 4th, 2004 02:28 pmWow, it's such a bright, sunny, crisp day here. That alone is enough to make you smile! Just got back from running Saturday morning errands -- picking up school pictures, buying trim for the reindeer. We have a store downtown called Your Remnanat Store and it's the most dizzyingly fantastic collection of fabrics and trims -- all jumbled together in a dusty old warehouse, and at the best prices. Walking through the crowded aisles is such an aesthetic treat for the senses -- all the textures and colors, bolt after bolt after bolt. Mostly it's home furnishing type stuff, so there are lots of industrial-strength brocades and sateens and tapestry fabrics. Makes me wish I had the kind of home you could really do up. And oh my, it brings back so many memories -- when I did the costumes for our old Gilbert and Sullivan company, that's where we found the cheapest fabric. I remember learning about how the coarsest, ugliest fabrics close up would catch the stage lights and become rich velvets, all the colors in the weave highlighted. I never did get to shop there much for my belly dance costumes, though -- they don't really carry much of the delicate stuff.
Then as I was getting back into my car, my eye was caught by a tiny barbershop across the narrow one-way street -- the whole front of it was done up as a gingerbread cottage decorated for Christmas. Waaaaay too cute -- but it certainly made me smile.
Have to get ready for Kidlet's liitle jazz dance recital now. Then more house-clearing -- gotta make some room for a Christmas tree downstairs. *bounce* *bounce* *bounce*
