The Tricky Meme!
June 26th, 2006 08:42 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
A (potentially) difficult meme, gacked from
arnie1967. See, the deal is, if you leave a comment to this post...
1. I'll respond with something random about you
2. I'll challenge you to try something
3. I'll pick a color that I associate with you
4. I'll tell you something I like about you
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of
7. I'll ask you something I’ve always wanted to ask you
and the original version has this:
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on yours!
But I will add, as
arnie1967 did: if you want to post this on your LJ, go ahead, but if you don't, don't. I hope you'll still comment anyway. Heee! A free out!

Date: June 27th, 2006 04:34 am (UTC)So... you do da comment, you gets da answers:
1. I'll respond with something random about you
I envision you as a fun person to be around! You seem to be salty in all the right ways: a salty sense of humor, an ability to take things with a grain of salt, and a bit of the salt-of-the-earth (in all the best ways).
2. I'll challenge you to try something
You seem to be as fascinated with Scotland as I am -- I challenge you to wear a kilt.
3. I'll pick a color that I associate with you
Huh, I think of red too -- a clear, steady red. (And, Freudian slip? I keep typing "read"!)
4. I'll tell you something I like about you
I like that you combine kindness, humor, and a bit of a naughty streak with what strikes me as a sense of personal dignity as well.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you
My first? I remember Ame introducing you as a new author on her website, and me thinking "Hot damn!"
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of
Heh, I already know you'd rather it not be a cat! I'm thinking... hedgehog! Perhaps because we saw the most *adorable* baby hedgehogs at Moonridge. And they seem to belong in Scotland... if they're not, they *should* be.
7. I'll ask you something I’ve always wanted to ask you
Oh... this is where I get to be Evil! So, what got you started writing the type of fics posted at Ame's site?
no subject
Date: June 27th, 2006 02:42 pm (UTC)2. I'm pretty sure I've already worn a kilt. ::taxes memory:: I made a kilt for my husband a long time ago...a dress kilt, not a great kilt...which he wore for historical re-enactments that we took part in, and I'm pretty sure I tried in on, although I drowned in it since hubby-mon is about a foot taller than me and, at least in the olde days, outweighed me by at least 100-120 lbs. *g*
3. That's 2 red's. Except for my Clairol-colored hair, I never would have thought of me as red. huh.
4. Well, shucks and gee-golly. Thank you. ::blushes::
5. ROTFL!
6. A hedgehog? Neato. I'm not quite that, ahem, petite...lol, but I like the adorable part.
7. Ok, well, hmmmmmm...it was a dare, more or less. There's just not a lot of that type of fic out there. And much of what there is, IMO, isn't all that good, and I had a notion I could write what I wanted to read. LOL Geeeeeez...did that make sense? If you like, we could discuss it more in-depth privately. Not that there's really all that much depth to it. *G*

Date: June 27th, 2006 04:56 am (UTC)1. I'll respond with something random about you
I will always enjoy the memory of us dancing around your living room to that Blondie song, the time I visited. Just bopping around!
2. I'll challenge you to try something
I challenge you to put something entirely different from your usual style in your new home -- something that will make you pause, bemused, whenever you glance at it, and shake your head in wonder and amusement at yourself.
3. I'll pick a color that I associate with you
A soft, dove gray -- delicate and a bit muted.
4. I'll tell you something I like about you
I like the way you can be starkly honest and so thoroughly young and vulnerable all at once, and that you keep trying.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you
My very first memory of you is seeing your mom's acknowledgment of your beta work in her earliest stories, and me (not knowing you were her daughter at the time) thinking "Wow, what an incredible writer she must be to be able to provide beta assistance for these stories!" (And I think there's a lot of truth to that first impression.)
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of
A kit fox (another animal I saw at the Moonridge Zoo on Saturday) -- a small, intelligent, strong little animal full of curiosity and some playfulness, but fearful as well.
7. I'll ask you something I’ve always wanted to ask you
Where does the name "Rae Lindorie" come from and why did you choose that as your online moniker?
no subject
Date: June 27th, 2006 05:08 am (UTC)And Rae_Lindorie. I originally was going to try to get into LOTR fanfic. I wanted an elvish sounding name. At the time I was using Raven as a name for some roleplays I was doing. So I cut it down to Rae, and actually my mom found Lindorie in one of her books.

Date: June 27th, 2006 05:31 am (UTC)1. I'll respond with something random about you
You are one of the most incredibly diverse and thought-provoking people I know.
2. I'll challenge you to try something
I challenge you to write a brief, purely-diversionary, piece of fluff!
3. I'll pick a color that I associate with you
A rich, burnished copper, speaking of ancient times and far-away places.
4. I'll tell you something I like about you
I like your razor-sharp intelligence laced with a wicked sense of humor.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you
I think my earliest memory is seeing comments in some LJs and in chat referring to your now-infamous pointy sticks! I was initially quite in awe of your brilliance, you know.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of
Since all I can bring to mind are the Moonridge animals, I'll have to say a serval. I saw the most elegant, gorgeous one there this weekend. Beautiful and regal and just a little on edge at its captivity.
7. I'll ask you something I’ve always wanted to ask you
This is hard because I feel like I've already had the opportunity to ask you everything. Okay: why the thing for owls?
no subject
Date: June 27th, 2006 07:59 pm (UTC)Erm...I never see the things that you folks seem to see in me. Nope. In awe? Of me? No, nononono! No reason, whatsoever. I still want to be you when I grow up.
And now I want an Egpytian Mau cat, because I went surfing for pictures of Servals and through that found out about Savannah cats (domestic/Serval crossbreeds) and then found Egyptian Maus. ;-)
Love the burnished copper, like the gorgeous, gorgeous material you gave me last year.
Owls? Because they represent wisdom and the past and they move through darkness. They're also seen as escorts for the souls of the lost, if I remember my mythologies correctly. If you believe in totem animals, one of mine would be the snowy owl. (Then there's the bats and the seas turtles and, once upon a time, a white horse.)
Write a brief, purely diversionary, bit of fluff? Hmmm.... Hmmm....

Date: June 28th, 2006 03:21 am (UTC)1. I'll respond with something random about you
You're the best mom in the whole world!
2. I'll challenge you to try something
I challenge you to take the Birthday Poem out before dawn on your next birthday and read it aloud as the sun rises.
3. I'll pick a color that I associate with you
A rich, warm brown -- perhaps the color of some birds, or of some good pirate clothes.
4. I'll tell you something I like about you
I like your sense of what's right in the world, and your determination to follow it.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you
I think one of my first memories of you was seeing your Elfquest icon and learning that you played it, and wondering what it was.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of
A wolf -- wise, loyal, a pack animal that can also be a loner, one who mates for life. Comfortable like a canine, but a little more wild.
7. I'll ask you something I’ve always wanted to ask you
As for Inkling, this is hard because I've had many opportunities to ask you things! Hmmmm, got it: *peers over glasses and says with complete seriousness* What is the technique for achieving that nine-minute orgasm, dear? (Private reply okay; we don't want just *any* ol' body to get hold of this information, do we? PIRATE!)

Date: June 28th, 2006 07:47 am (UTC)I would disagree with #1, but then, Estel and EK both called me that tonight, independently, so... *grin* thank you for the lovely compliment.
You know, anything "just before dawn" is a challenge for me, on my birthday or otherwise. But this birthday coming up is actually a... I hesitate to say a worrisome one, but... well, maybe "significant" is the word I'm looking for. Á la hitchhiker's guide, I will be "the meaning of Life, the Universe, and everything." 42. Yeah, I'm a geek, so it's more significant to me than 40 was. I'll do my best to remember it.
I never thought of brown as a color of mine, but I guess you're right. Earth tones look crappy with my skin, but they're a good fit for my soul.
As for #4, I'm good at determination; follow-through, on the other hand? not so much my strong suit. I'm working on that one.
I think I need to bring back my Elfquest iconage. I've been feeling like Clearbrook, more and more, of late. Thank you for reminding me of that icon.
#6. Awwwwwwoooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!! *grin*
and as for #7? *snerk* okay, start with a very long-term partner who knows just where all the bells and whistles are located. Proceed to engage in Three Frickin' DAYS of foreplay, where your child[ren] interrupt every possible moment of intimacy, just at the moment when you would have gotten close to your "yay". (are you with me? what parent isn't?) At this level of absolute wound-up-tight-ness, go try something you've never tried before, something transgressive and sexual and nawty. (for me, it's nudie-patootie outdoors, with the very slight possibility of being caught by another adult, out hiking on the trail very late in the day. YMMV, of course. the key is what's a little scary but not too much.) So, under these conditions, FOOL AROUND A LOT, BUT DO NOT ORGASM.
Optional step at this point: [OVULATE] *snerk*
Now, wait until you're really REALLY sure the kid(s) are sound asleep by drinking a nice margarita with your dear, long-term lover & bestest friend... or any other tequila delivery device of your choice.
Climb in the bed you've shared for over 20 years. Make slow, sweet whoopie. AND enjoy the longest nine minutes of your life.

Date: June 28th, 2006 03:37 am (UTC)1. I'll respond with something random about you
I perceive great depths of beauty in you, that I suspect you don't necessarily see in yourself.
2. I'll challenge you to try something
I challenge you to spend an evening by yourself, doing something that you consider completely self-indulgent and normally wouldn't let yourself do. It could be a candle-scented bubble bath, or walk alone into some natural setting, or a book of poems in a coffee shop -- anything that you haven't normally allowed yourself to do. And tell me what it is!
3. I'll pick a color that I associate with you
A deep, soothing forest green -- perhaps because of your icon, but also just because it seems to suit you.
4. I'll tell you something I like about you
I like your honesty and forthrightness, and your love for your children.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you
One of my earliest memories is of telling Chrysti MD that I was sort of afraid to get to know you (not sure why any more), and Chrysti turned right around and told you so that we had to meet (on chat, or online somewhere -- maybe you sent me an email) to work it out! And of course we liked each other right away. Silly me.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of
Definitely in the cat family. Oh, a mountain lion! Beautiful and belonging here and either friendly or distant, however the mood strikes.
7. I'll ask you something I’ve always wanted to ask you
Do you think you'll ever write any more fiction? Yours was lovely.
no subject
Date: June 29th, 2006 06:15 am (UTC)2. I feel like I indulge myself all the time as it is! Something different, though. Will have to think about that.
3. That's funny; other people have associated me with green before, too. It was my favorite color for a long time, when I had one.
4. :-)
5. No! You couldn't have been afraid to meet me. I'm like, the most timid person alive.
6. This surprised me at first, but after thinking about it for a minute, yeah, I can see it. Weird! Never thought of myself as a cat before.
7. You know, I have no idea. I'm not sure where the desire to write came from, and I'm really not sure where it went. It might come back eventually, but not soon, I don't think.
If I remember, I'll try to post this Friday. I should have more time to think about it over the weekend.

You seem to be a conscientious, caring person.
2. I'll challenge you to try something
I challenge you to pick three of my memories and read them.
3. I'll pick a color that I associate with you
I think red -- perhaps because of your screen name, and I think of a red bird.
4. I'll tell you something I like about you
I like that you're a vegan!
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you
Hmmm -- not enough time to really have any memories. My first impression, though, was of someone who likes their coffee. (see icon)
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of
A bright red cardinal.
7. I'll ask you something I’ve always wanted to ask you
Well, I haven't known you long enough to have *always* wanted to ask you anything! However, I think I'd like to know the story of how you became a vegan.

6. Thank you! I love birds. :)

You are just about the sweetest person on LJ!
2. I'll challenge you to try something
I challenge you to try three new Weight Watchers recipes in the next three weeks (and let me know how they are!).
3. I'll pick a color that I associate with you
A beautiful, rich, royal blue.
4. I'll tell you something I like about you
I like your love for your friends and your determination to succeed, slowly and patiently, in many ways.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you
Ha! My first memory was being jealous of you because you got to be Pip! *g*
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of
A chinchilla -- so cute and frisky and lovely!
7. I'll ask you something I’ve always wanted to ask you
What was your "gig" at Renaissance Faires, and which ones did you regularly attend?

I completely enjoy your "company" on LJ -- you are always positive and uplifting.
2. I'll challenge you to try something
I challenge you to take a belly dance lesson! (Hee -- I admit it -- that's completely tit for tat!)
3. I'll pick a color that I associate with you
Turquoise blue -- it seems to suit you.
4. I'll tell you something I like about you
I like your pluckiness and selflessness, as well as your creative imagination.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you
My first memory was reading your first story at Susan's site (The Wrong Guide, I think it was), and just loving it, because it was a less-grim kind of bonding fic -- and wondering if there would be any more from you! Then getting all happy and excited when it wasn't too long before another one showed up... and another... LOL!
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of
Hmmm, I think another of the cats -- an ocelot, small and elegant and beautiful.
7. I'll ask you something I’ve always wanted to ask you
What was the first TS story you ever read, and is it one of your favorites?
no subject
Date: June 28th, 2006 11:58 am (UTC)Aww, thank you! I usually worry I'm being a bit boring.
I challenge you to take a belly dance lesson! (Hee -- I admit it -- that's completely tit for tat!)
Oddly enough, I bought a 'how to belly dance' DVD. I'm just hoping for some improvement in my arms before I give it a go. If not, I'll dance with my feet - and belly, obviously, though there's plenty of that! ::sighs::
Turquoise blue -- it seems to suit you.
I like turquoise! And I got a light turquoise as an answer from someone else. :oD
I like your pluckiness and selflessness, as well as your creative imagination.
You guys seem to have a very high opinion of me. I don't think I'm particularly plucky, and um...selfless? Hmmm. I am glad of my imagination though. :oD
My first memory was reading your first story at Susan's site (The Wrong Guide, I think it was), and just loving it, because it was a less-grim kind of bonding fic -- and wondering if there would be any more from you! Then getting all happy and excited when it wasn't too long before another one showed up... and another... LOL!
Writing them is addictive, I swear! I love them. And the first AU I posted was "The Wrong Guide", so you were right. :oD
Hmmm, I think another of the cats -- an ocelot, small and elegant and beautiful.
Heh! Soooo not me, but thanks!
What was the first TS story you ever read, and is it one of your favorites?
It was definitely on Wolfpup's Den and I think it was either Agnes Mage's "Stealing Memories" or Cindy Combs' "The Maze". I was intrigued enough to read more fanfic. I still have both of those stories saved in my documents (along with a ton of Sentinel fic) but I have found fic that I like better. So, no, not favourites but well liked enough to read again (although I don't particularly like Agnes' depiction of Blair).

You seem to be one of those really nice and supportive types here in LJ-land!
2. I'll challenge you to try something
Heh, since I don't know you well (yet), guess I'll resort to the ol' "getting to know you" challenge -- so I'll challenge you to read three of my memories.
3. I'll pick a color that I associate with you
A light, powder blue -- not sure why, maybe from the sky at Moonridge.
4. I'll tell you something I like about you
I loved your cheery, kind smile when I met you at Moonridge!
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you
I think my *first* memory of you is from either the lists or LJ, when I got confused between you and Andi (Admiralandrea, I think that is) -- before I realized there were two of you with different spellings.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of
For some reason you remind me of Cascade, the mountain lion. Maybe from your moniker?
7. I'll ask you something I've always wanted to ask you
Well, since we've just met I can't say I've *always* wanted to ask you anything, but -- how did you get started in Sentinel fandom?
