Once again I am amazed by Kidlet and her enterprising ways. She got herself a volunteer docent job at the Ty Warner ("Mr. Beanie Babies") Sea Center on Stearn's Wharf in Santa Barbara, so for the next four months she'll spend Satuday mornings much as she did today: with her hands in the touch-tank, explaining the ways of the decorator crab to the visitors. We picked her up at 12:30 and took her to lunch on the wharf, where she could thaw her cold and clammy hands out on the warm, sun-soaked patio table while we admired the harbor views and sailboats, kayaks, and tourist boats, plus one frolicsome sea lion. So while we're watching the boats sail by, she amazes me even more by explaining the boat right of way and purposes of various vessels, as she'd learned in her sailing/kayaking summer camps over the years at that same harbor. *Jealous* I still want to learn to sail.
But you know, my time is coming -- she's growing up so fast, and ended her summer with her first week of getting to do things on her own with her new junior high friends: movies, and lunches, and shopping at the mall, and just hanging. In fact, Husband and I found ourselves with lots of extra time on our hands last weekend, wondering how to fill it. We didn't wonder long, though... I made some delicious maple-glazed salmon and we poured a couple glasses of wine, and thensome of you might remember that nifty little black number I picked up at that Certain Store in San Jose at Hobbitcon, right? The one with the, um, garters? Husband *liked* it... a lot! we passed the time nicely.
