Almost home...
December 21st, 2004 05:02 pmI have such a great kid. She's old enough to stay home alone on these odd days where she's out of school but I'm not quite out of work -- but I don't *like* it. She's twelve, she's almost a teenager, blah blah blah -- I still can't help worrying.
So she calls me every hour so that I can be reassured. "I'm bored." "I didn't do my project yet! Sorry!" "Your funny comb doesn't work very well on the bunny..." (She meant my hair pick, which... yeah. Was not meant for combing animals.)
LOL! Twenty minutes, then I'm off for the rest of the holidays and until January 3. YIPPEE!!!!!

So did she say what the bunny thought of the hair pick?

Date: December 22nd, 2004 06:20 am (UTC)Yes, it *is* hard to start letting go. Two steps forward, one step back. I'm a big believer in letting kids have some independence and alone-time and opportunities to learn about the world around them. You know, ride the bike to the library, etc. And then some rat's ass rapes a kid a few blocks away, right in Claire's own schoolyard, and paranoia rears its ugly head... again. Oops! Didn't mean to get all heavy here. But it's hard, for sure. I do trust her, though -- although, dammit, she opened the door to the postman the other day. *Sigh* Still working on it...
And yes, thank goodness for the holiday break!!! Whoot!
