Busy, busy, busy...
September 13th, 2004 09:48 pmI am getting a little tired of my cats helping out with the laundry. They take it upon themselves to tidy up all the socks left lying around downstairs (not by me, of course, since I'm a barefooter from way back, but the spouse and the kidlet are another matter). So they run around at night collecting up the socks and they drag them upstairs in their little ittle mouths, and drop them in strategic places so that we'll be sure to notice and, I suppose, put them away. Hey, you cats! Quit trying to one-up me on the housework! Thank you.
Some might call it manic, but I say productive, dammit! Scurried around all day Friday and took care of tons of work: TAships for the fall and revision of fellowship disbursals now that we *finally* have the actually fee figures, and so on. Saturday was a day of rest and anniversary celebration, with kidlet spending the night at a friend's. We grown-ups got to eat at a nice restaurant with bubbly drinks and then we bought action figures at the comic book store and walked downtown to browse the bookstore and listen to the street musicians, which is our idea of fun and a night on the town. I got Return of the King Merry in Armor, so Pippin won't be lonesome anymore! But Sunday was the best: woke up and felt like sorting things out and cleaning and organizing, so I did -- cleaned off my messy dresser and got rid of bunches of junk and hung things up on the wall and bought frames and framed pictures and dressed my Felicity doll in her summer clothes (and my, it's fun to play with a doll at 50!)... *takes a breath*. And on top of it all I've been taking care of all the junior high business, like forms to sign and lunches to pack (the hot lunch line is way too long) and picture day tomorrow and... like that.
And through it all, I've hardly been on the computer. Not even reading fanfiction! I swear, I was *this close* to making an appointment with an addiction counselor, so I decided I really better do something about it. And I'm doing fine! I can read a story and then put the computer away! I can come onto LJ every few days and feel good about it! Most of the time, anyway. *Smile* All I have to do is stay really, really busy! *Bigger smile* Must feed the bunny and get ready for bed now!

Date: September 14th, 2004 07:53 am (UTC)Yup, been there, done that--well, at least the "this close" part. Keeping busy seems to be the answer to that, writing helps too. (You probably don't want to know about the surveys that show a greater proportion of internet users are mentally ill than in the general population? ;-) I still fight that battle, but I'm working on it. One thing that helped was moving into the LOTR fandom where the number of really good authors compared to stories is very small. (Not like the TS fandom where there are so many good writers.)
And you have a doll, too!
Ahem. ;-) Sorry.
Manic/productive, whatever. It *sounds* like a great few days.
And if I could train my cats to help with laundry I think I'd be happy!

Date: September 14th, 2004 04:47 pm (UTC)My doll is an American Girl. I couldn't stand to let Kidlet have all the fun! Actually my sister won her at one of the AG tea parties we went to a few years back, and gave her to me that Christmas. Whee -- that was a *huge* surprise! But they all knew I wanted her. She has five outfits plus a cloak and a nightgown -- good thing I bought them because they're discontinuing Felicity (the fools). Of course Mattel bought them out several years ago and I've noticed a distinct decline in the quality of things like fabrics, etc.
I can just imagine the porcelain doll -- my mother has one from the 1920s. *sigh* Such a girly-girl I am!
And the cats, well, who knows what's going on in their little pea brains? It's pretty funny, though.
*Mwah*!
