I found a great cure for the blahs of a couple days ago. Dancing! This should not be a revelation to me, you'd think. But I'm older and lazier, and it takes a bit more motivation to get me out and *doing*. I badly needed to do something, though, and my best friend C. was being very persuasive, so I hauled myself out to the dance platform in Oak Park.

Funny, as soon as I heard the music from the parking lot I could feel myself cheering up. Had to skirt the folks at the horseshoe pits with their boombox music -- they seem like a nice enough group (I mean, they've never once harassed us folkdancers, and goodness knows it wouldn't be surprising if they did -- very few "outsiders" have a tolerance for folkdance music), but rowdy enough to be cautious around.

C. and I have a lot of fun with the dancing -- we tend to be a bit noisy, and after dancing together for nearly 25 years, we certainly know our stuff. We get a little goofy with the steps, sort of show-offy, and yip a lot. But it maybe shows the newbies that you don't have to be so all-fired *serious* about it all... heh.

And the next day I rode my bike to work -- go me! A half-hour ride along the most wonderful bike trail, not near any traffic at all. I got to squeal with delight at seeing the wild brown bunnies scurrying out of the way, and watched the pickers in the little local farm plot -- I felt a lot of compassion seeing their hunched-over postures as they picked, and breathed a prayer of gratitude to them for providing the food for my table. Sweated up the last hill, and arrived at work barely on time and with helmet-hair to show for my efforts. It was misty and overcast as I rode in, but by the time I left at 2:00 it was sunny and beautiful. The bunnies were gone but the lizards were darting about, and the tiny black bugs in the air stuck to my clothes.

So now I'm "all that" about how much exercise I'm getting. Ain't I virtuous?

YAY EXERCISE!

*pins a little medal on you*

Being the active, twitchy, cant-hold-still person that I am, I tend to fall in the camp of "exercise can solve all the world's woes."

Having said that's my bias, however, I'm all for the "whatever works" approach. So glad to see you found what works for you. You gave me a BIG SMILE with the line about the bunnies and lizards and bugs. Made me be there, you did. YK calls that kind of afternoon "lizard weather."

"Lizard weather"... I love that! So descriptive.

Glad I could make you smile in the midst of all your fevered sleepiness. Sure hope you start to feel better soon. I heard there's a lot of stuff starting to go around... sure hope I pull a miss on this one.

*Feeds you virtual chicken soup, despite my vegetarian ways.*
