We're having the most incredible heat wave. The days are balmy and gorgeous, and the jasmine is blooming -- was downtown earlier and it smelled heavenly. In certain areas, anyway.

It's been a good day. This doesn't have anything to do with going back on the happy pills after several months without, does it? Hmmm. Must ponder. But after my five hours of work (which was *not* fun -- lots of probs there) because Thursdays are short days, I picked up my daughter and we dashed to the courthouse to apply for passports. Finally. We'll be going through Canada to get to our Alaskan cruise this summer, so passports will help. Anyway, I told the kidlet about how I used to work in & around the courthouse, 32 years ago (OMG! it can't be! that's *so* long!) and told the clerk too -- she was way more interested than the kid, who was mega-embarrassed and later said I sounded *ditzy* -- hmmmmppphh! I *hate* 11-year-old girls. Way too sensitive about their moms. So just to rub it in I dragged her across the street to where I had my first job as a tender 18-year-old -- and told those clerks too, who were again way more interested... I see a pattern there. Heh, they still have the huge reel-to-reel tape set-up that *I* was the primary operator for, when we used to record the Board of Supervisors' meetings that way. It's *way* outdated now, but the guy said he just had a request to hear a tape from 1973 -- one of my years. Hah!

Then we dashed to get a treat before kidlet's dance class -- stopped at the art museum cafe and had the Best. Freaking. Flourless. Chocolate. Torte. Ever. Not on my diet, but oh well. And kidlet made up for past misdeeds by calling me the best mom in the world when I poured half of my milk into her glass after she gulped hers all down. Heh. And she smooched me, too -- she can be sweet, that kid. So then we zipped into the art museum shop and bought artsy books for mother-in-law who's laid up in a rehab with bacterial pneumonia -- we'll spend our weekend visiting. And dashed to the dance class, where I dropped child off and then wandered the lower depths of State Street and realized how much it was like that street in Pittsburgh that Daisy took me too, with the really funky and interesting shops. Found a head shop/hippie shop/porn shop! And bought this great India skirt with gold threads all through it, and an India gauze shirt. Whoot! Yay for old hippies.

Going with husband to see that movie tonight -- The Passion one -- because I want to be able to give my views on it with the benefit of having seen it; right now I can only discuss hearsay. He wants to go to a community forum on it this weekend where one of my faculty will be part of the panel (she specializes in early Christianity and history), and since he's Jewish and I'm -- not affiliated but open-minded to all -- we figured we'd have room for discussion. I'm fully prepared to be mainly grossed out and horrified by the violence. I'll be sure to let y'all know what I think!

Eldest saw it with the girlfriend's youth group. He said it blew the Christians away, but for him, it was good on many levels but he didn't find it had nearly as much of an impact since he didn't buy the mythology.

11 year olds are the funniest creatures.

**hugs** grope

Eldest must be tougher than I am. I didn't find it "good" on any level -- it was more violent than I could have imagined. I'm sorry I went. I'm almost done shaking.

Well. Ahem. Changing topics here!

Hey, I really miss you. Wish we could talk. And I still owe you that crystal moon, don't I? I will try to get it in the mail this weekend -- do you think one of those padded envelopes will protect it enough? *Smooch*

Oh -- thought of you while we were downtown today! Passed the only hand-dyed and specialty yarn shop in town. So of course you came to mind!

Oh! I forgot to tell you; Lin found the one you had given me originally and sent it to me. Your lovely moon and other beads are hanging above the window by my desk. {{{shiredancer}}}

That sucks about the movie, but it's why I won't go see it. I'm familiar enough with the story as it is. What did Tony think of it?

***hugs*** and I hope the "aftertaste" goes away, quickly.

Heh -- you mean Peter. He agreed with me on my views (yes antisemitic, yes fanatically pro-Christian) and had to close his eyes to the violence as much as me -- but he wasn't as affected and was surprised at the vehemence of my reactions. He's turning his scientist mind to trying to find out what was actually written in the Bible... curious about the facts, or myths.

Just downed a *very* stiff hot chocolate with amaretto and am relaxing some...

Oh, I'm glad about the moon! Does it make rainbows? *think rainbows... think rainbows...*

Oh, god, I am SO stupid. I know Tony, he resembles the pictures I've seen of your husband. The minute I posted that I realized I probably had it wrong. Eeep! Many, many apologies!

If PETER wants some good books on that subject, I'm sure Dennis can recommend some. He's got a bookshelf full of them. ;-)

stiff hot cocoa is a good thing. And I don't get enough sun in my window to make rainbows, but it's pretty none the less! And it's inspiring, too. Thank you!

EEE! I love your kidlet!

I was going to ask you to be sure to post your thoughts on the movie, but I just read your comments with Trill. I haven't seen it yet and was pretty much planning NOT to and was curious what you thought.

Yeah, I love her too!

I thought it was obscene on many levels -- in its violence, in its anti-semitism (the "good" Jews were the followers of Christ, read "soon to be Christians", and the "bad" Jews were practically slavering for his blood, howling and grinning at his suffering), and in its pro-fanatical-Christian, tract-style presentation. I admit I went in prejudiced, and had my convictions confirmed -- so I could have saved myself the money and the horror. I'll never go to anything made by Mel Gibson again.

Erm... sorry about the rant! It's not directed at you, sweetie.
