I shouldn't be here.
December 19th, 2003 03:50 pmMy job is horrendous right now, and I have a *mountain* of fed-ex packages to work through (all full of application materials, as the deadline was Monday). But I can't resist this:
One of my grad students, the one who is my LOTR pal and has been researching in Syria, flew in from Damascus on Wednesday night at 6:40 and immediately went to the 7:30 showing of ROTK. Gor, that woman has her priorities in order!!! She dropped by today to enthuse over it with me -- the first RL person I've been able to discuss it with.
And she told me the funniest story: her sister called my grad student's husband not long ago after her first viewing of the extended TTT, asking in some puzzlement about the plotlines. "What's this thing with the big eye?" etc. Husband says "Well, you remember some of this stuff from the first movie, right?" Pause. "There was a *first* movie????!!!!"
ROFLOL!!!
I kid you not. Even "Foxtrot" can't top that one.
The good news: this is my last day at work; I'm off for the next two weeks. Whoot! Now I can start preparing for the holidays.
