So, what have I been up to since last I posted? Er, not very much, actually. Life proceeds apace with only minor miracles and tiny triumphs. Like curtains. Yeah, I put up curtains in the living room, something I'd been meaning to do for the past 13 years, ever since we bought this place. Oh, there were institutional-looking vertical blinds when we moved in but I never considered them *curtains*. Curtains are to soften the edges of the windows on the world, in my mind, and now that's what I have: lovely sheer lacy things given to me by my mother-in-law. Now that we have psuedo-wood flooring I love the contrast of lace and oak.

And I planted a garden, too -- the first one in two years. Last year was so consumed by LOTR madness that I wasn't even tempted. But now I have my two-tier planter box all nicely filled in, herbs on the top and chard, lettuces, and squash on the bottom, all surrounded by marigolds and lobelia (the alyssum died immediately). We have only a handkerchief-sized brick patio with our little condo, so container gardening is all I get (and frankly all I can manage). I am inordinately proud of my daughter, who planted *all* the other containers and the strawberry pot, all by herself and with all her own selections. She came up with some lovely containers full of lots of types of purple flowers (guess what her favorite color is??) The squash has been dubbed the Killer Mutant Squash as it tries to eat the entire patio.

Since I've been on such a winning streak, domestically speaking, I also hung up my colorful folk dance dress splayed out on a long dowel rod in the stairwell -- it perfectly fills that big bare wall with color, and that's another thing I've meant to do for 13 years. I know a lot of my friends here sew, so y'all remember the Folkwear line of patterns, right? This is the Afghani Nomad Dress, authentic version, with yards and yards of blue and red and green calico with little flowers everywhere. Too voluminous to dance in, really, but perfect on display. Sigh -- the baskets are hung up on the wooden beam and one of my macrame plant hangers from the '70s graces the stairwell, and I am full of domestic tranquility and bliss and accomplishment and pride.

Makes me want to go stir up some trouble just so I'll have something more interesting to write about...

Your postings always make me smile because there is so much heart in them. :) I love decorating, too.
Especially the description of your garden is very lovely. Makes me want to see it. Pictures? ;)

Hi Eve! Thanks for the encouragement... I needed that. Life has been so ho-hum, not exactly inspiring the posts. Pictures... hmmm, we'll see -- I'm not very good with graphics but maybe with my husband's help. Good to hear from you, and I'm sorry you and Linaelyn missed connecting. Still singing?
