Thank God for my husband. I'm sitting here reading fics on the net and he's all excited about the lunar eclipse. He's like that. And he's going back and forth, in and out of the house with binoculars, trying to find the best vantage point, and finally talks our daughter into going out to see too. He's good that way -- he's Mr. Science and Math and I'm all the right brain stuff. (Except he's the one that assists with make-up when she's in a play... hee. He's better at make-up than I am. And he's cute in it, too. On stage, of course.) But anyway, they troop down the road to the corner to see and it's just too far for me in my lazy mood so I settle back in with the fics. I'm not way interested, y'know, because I've seen lots of eclipses and they're kind of dim and ho-hum, but now he's saying that the moon is *red* and whoa, that sounds really cool. And then I realize what I'm reading: a really nice, well-written, believe-it-or-not GEN Sentinel story called Nor Bid the Stars Farewell, absolutely filled with poetic imagery about stars, humanity, and other celestial stuff. And the absolute irony hits me, of me reading all this star-and-moon related stuff and not even bothering to take in the *real thing* and how crazy is that? So thank God for my husband, because I finally did haul myself out there and swiped the binoculars from him and took a good look at that red, cloudy moon just moving out of the eclipse with one pure gold-limned edge hovering and easing over. One good breath, and one long look, and I felt briefly grounded in reality and beauty for a short while.
Then, right back to the fanfic. Heh. Once a screamingly addicted fangirl, always a screamingly addicted fangirl. But grounded, in a celestial sort of way.
Oh, and the title of that lovely fic? It's from a poem by Tolkien. Who says you can't mix fandoms?
Beautiful.

Sometimes it's nice to have these men around, eh?
