It was the mountain after all

HAPPY BIRTHDAY WHO TOOK!!!!!
I just want you to know that your friendship is very special to me. I wish you all the good things in life this year: love and light and beauty and joy and health and yes, publication! I am unreasonably pleased that you enjoyed the writer's conference so much, and I fully expect many good writings from you. Enjoy your day, love! *SMOOCH*
And just for the record, the mountain won out yesterday. No, I didn't make it at dawn, but since my city was blanketed by coastal fog it didn't make much difference. At 7 a.m. I headed for the foothills and began to climb; and the mountain itself was in full glorious sunshine. And I went further than I ever have before on a birthday morning, all the way to the top of the trail, to Inspiration Point! Whoot! Of course, Santa Barbarians being what they are, it was like a fecking freeway even at that hour: hikers and joggers and mountain bikers and dogs all heading up together (and many already heading down, sheesh) -- smile, nod, "good morning", over and over. Including two chattering magpies of women who filled the canyons with their voices. Sigh. I managed to overtake and pass them on the trail, but of *course* in the middle of my reading-aloud of the poem, heeeeere they come. Had to relocate to another part of the landscape, but hey, silver lining: I found an even better view, all up the coast with the land curving in and out edged by the still-heavy marine layer below. And I read the whole poem, out loud, and felt pretty spectacularly glorious for a while there. God, that is one *fabulous* way to start a new year.
I truly want to thank you all for the warm birthday wishes, and just say again that I love you. I'm so glad I'm here on LJ and found you.
