September 27th, 2005 10:31 amYep, the Fall Quarter has begun. Not that things slowed down during the summer, really -- but suddenly the campus is so crowded -- so many interruptions -- so many people stopping by with questions. But it's exciting, too. I think fall is a particularly manic time for me; I'm much more inclined to get things in order and clean house then, rather than the proverbial spring cleaning. That's why I spent the whole weekend two weeks ago putting the attic and book loft in order, getting things out of Kidlet's room, and clearing out under our raised bed, which has been home to boxes of letters and memorabilia as well as the Hidden Den of the cats. Sorted and eliminated a bunch of junk, and the rest got stowed away into plastic drawers instead of crumbling boxes.
So of course the memorabilia-sorting put me under an odd spell of nostalgia lately. Even went so far as to google my first love -- and lo and behold, found some references. So I've joined this thing online called Tribe.net just so I could send him a message -- anybody heard of that? It seems to be sort of a forum set-up, sort of a blog option, sort of a dating service (!), designed for connecting with those with like interests, and by region. And I can*not* figure the damn thing out -- makes LJ seem downright easy.
On another restless front: my child is growing up. She'll become a teenager in two week -- yikes. And with her increased independence and reliance on friends for companionship instead of mommy and daddy, I've got more time on my hands. I'm seriously thinking of looking into volunteering at the Rescue Mission homeless shelter.
And that Tribe.net thing? Has re-opened my eyes to the wonderful things that people do out in the world, when they're not absorbed with raising kids. I'm casting about for a creative outlet, and wishing I could be involved with Renaissance Faires or somesuch (though there are none put on locally). Where should I cast my lot?
