Last week was spent switching offices with my co-worker. It was tiring, yes, but also very invigorating -- should have done this years ago! I spent seven years in the last office and only as I was moving out did I realize how *big* and *heavy* the furniture in there is, and how it just overwhelmed me. Two huge five-drawer lateral files swamped one wall, while over my desk loomed a floor-to-almost-ceiling bookcase. Then the massive desk wrapped me in completely on three sides. Couldn't even reach my window over the width of that behemoth -- had to climb on it. And it was all designed to fit in just so -- couldn't vary it at all.

Now I have a nice L-shaped desk with the window-side free, one file cabinet, and in the front more file cabinets and a bookcase, but all half-high. It feels so -- airy, and open. I put up some fabric hangings my students have brought me over the years, and my Kidlet pictures, and my fan collection. And by the window is a little wrought-iron DVD shelf that fits in perfectly and holds my CDs and tea things, and personal collection of books. (Must keep Chaucer and Boethius in the office... adds good karma, y'know. Along with basket of sage and dried rose petals.) I've been having such fun decorating and buying plants and even a rug. Brought in two new types of tea, too -- I think that makes fifteen boxes of tea in my office now. Should be good to go for another seven years. *g*
