Mmmm, it was a good day today. Got two more students advanced to PhD candidacy -- they're always *so* relieved to get through the qualifying exams. And it was so nice and quiet! Summer session=bliss. Nobody around, plenty of parking, and we spent half the afternoon taking bets on the Jackson verdict coming in from the north part of our county. We all lost. Hmmm.
This is my long day -- my schedule has gone back to MWF until 5:30, then I go directly to my sewing group, aka Stitch 'N Bitch (though it's more like Quilt 'N Giggle) which starts at 6. I'm finishing up a funky, country-style dress that I can use for folk and contra dancing. But on my way there tonight I had the pleasure of hearing NPR's series This I Believe, where people submit essays about something they believe in. We're not talking religious beliefs here, but things that move them -- tonight's was an essay on jazz. Pretty good, too. And before that there was a segment with book and music reviews, including a piece with Joy Harjo singing. Now, I heard Joy give a poetry reading in my undergrad years and was so affected by her words that it inspired my own poem (I was taking a class on poetry-writing as one of my electives). Heh, I'm tempted to send my poem in to NPR, just so they can have a laugh. Probably won't get around to it though -- have to find the poem in my stuff somewhere. *Smile*
