Exhilirated.
September 30th, 2002 11:20 pmA very long but very satisfying day; my department welcomed the new grad students with our annual potluck after work. And we were entertained by our famous Middle East Ensemble. And I danced to their music... oh, wow. I can't think when the last time was that I danced to live music. Such a fabulous, delectable, delightful treat. Students liked it. Faculty liked it. Musicians liked it, and they're the ones who would know best. Makes me feel like I've still got it, if the musicians tell me so. So maybe I needn't have spent all last evening thunking my head with my palm and asking "What was I thinking to agree to this???!"
Funniest, but most heartwarming, comment was from my little girl -- who, at her current age, is hypercritical of her mommy at the best of times --when she said I looked about 19 when I was dancing. (Because looking my actual age is, like, anathema to her.) And she blew me a kiss while I danced. In spite of her embarrassment over my hair.
Happy sigh.

And kids are too sweet--have to be, to make up for the times they're not. ;-) Go,
