I colored my own hair for the first time today. My sister did it for me seven weeks ago and I wrote down very exact, explicit instructions -- which paid off today. I can do it! My hair is darker than it's ever been in my whole life now. Actually, I love it.

But then I got a little burst of confidence and went all crazy with my tiny hair-cutting (bang-trimming, that is) scissors, and wacked off all my hair. O_O I... may need to get into a beauty parlor quick-like to get it sort of evened out. Chop chop, so to speak. If I can get a picture taken I'll see if I can post it. Heh, promises promises (we all know I don't know how to post pictures).

Except I have no idea how to do this! Never done it before. How hard is it? Magenta/russet would be fun, as would blue. Maybe over spring break I'll get brave...

It's EASY. I do mine in two stages: bleach one day (takes about ten minutes of head-painting, one hour of wait-time, and ten minutes of showering-off) and add color sometime in the next week or so (ten minutes of head-painting, 20 minutes of wait-time, and ten minutes of showering-off).

If you want bold color, bleaching first is the way to go; knowing your sensitivities to various stuff, I'd say the biggest hurdle for you might be finding a way to do that without burning your skin. You can color with Manic Panic over darker hair and it still gives a nice highlight.

One caveat about Manic Panic -- it can come off on the pillow case! I have black ones I use for the first couple nights after coloring, because the freshest color is the most 'leaky.'

Oh, I like their "vegetarian" products. And either their "Deadly Nightshade" or Divine Wine look like what I had in mind. I would probably not bleach it first, though, not the first time.

As someone who's been coloring her hair for years, I say good for you! It's not hard, you just have to take your time and be careful. One of these days I'm going to try highlights...

I color my mothers hair and every now and then we experiment with a new shade because it is too light/red/dark fortunately we found a good color the first try last month when they discontined her color!

My hair is getting long again, I can finally put it up.

LOL OMG you reminded me of when I was trimming the split ends from my hair and when I finished I had a full small trash can. lol. At the time I had really long hair so it wasn't so bad, lol.
