Gacked from several on the flist:

Your result for The 'How Army Literate Are You?' Test...

The Army Brat / Veteran

You scored 95 % Knowledge out of 120! Very Good!

You were nearly there. You got most of the answers correct, there were only a few you didn't know. This makes me think you either grew up around the army (and followed your family from one duty station to another) or that you used to be in the military and you're just a little out of touch with the newer military vocabulary. You've proved that you're very familiar with most of the army lingo though. Well done.

Thanks for taking my test :)

True! Although actually I'm a Navy brat; my dad was a career chief petty officer and medic. We bounced from coast to coast until he retired when I was eight. Most of my knowledge for purposes of the quiz, though, came from reading Sentinel stories -- or just common knowledge. Now, if they'd slanted it toward Navy slang like "hit the deck", "all ashore who's going ashore", and so forth, I'd have really shone. Still can't tell time by the bells, though. But my heart thunders mightily whenever I hear Anchors Aweigh or Bell-Bottom Trousers... Or even I Threw a Kiss in the Ocean or Three Little Sisters. My mom's favorites when my dad was away at sea.

However... this is not what I want to be posting about! Where is my little bit of a writing mojo, the one that permits small posts of moderate interest and at least lets me record my own thoughts and memories? Has menopause really wiped it all out?? *Heavy sigh*

I took it too.. and from second hand knowledge picked up via Jon and my biological father Phil I managed to get 80% which isn't to bad in my opinion. And by second hand I mean listening to conversations and occasionally asking questions. hehe

LOL! Yeah, it's amazing what's out there in the general populace and ordinary conversation. Interesting to think how much the military pervades everyday life, and all the social and historical ramifications... but I digress.

Whoa. I got 90%, and I know absolutely NOTHING about the Army. I just guessed at the answers.

Well, there ya go. Military knowledge pervades our culture! As it probably does all cultures. Defense and safety are probably primal imperatives in all of us. *Muses on that* Odd thoughts, for a peacenik like me.
