If I'm reading the LJ-news post correctly, rich text was implemented on August 28th, 2008, I believe. You've got nothing to be embarrassed about. :-) More about it here. (http://news.livejournal.com/109854.html)

Hi yourself! Yep, it's busy, but nope, no worse than usual. We're heading into the college years (if Kidlet chooses that as her option, which is how it's looking), and that's a bit daunting, at least in the public school system -- so we're dealing with new and different things.
