In Dreamland
June 27th, 2008 10:14 amIt's Friday, and it's summertime. My job has eased up *immensely*, at last, at last -- it's almost like magic, that transition from the last day of the school year to the first day of summer break.
On Fridays I indulge in a chai latte, and of late every Friday morning I've been listening to a CD that I downloaded to my work computer. It's a fantastic compilation that never fails to set me adrift in the midst of dreams and nostalgia. It evokes memories and senses so strongly -- it just amazes me. Of all things, it's one of those Starbucks compilations, called "From the Coffeehouse". Great, classic tunes from the golden era of folk coffeehouses and acoustic music. The first song is the Fairport Convention's recording of "Who Knows Where the Time Goes," and for some reason Sandy Denny's haunting voice is what sets my thoughts and emotions free. By the time we get to Judy Collins singing "Suzanne" I can literally smell the oranges that come all the way from China. And when the children lean out for love (and will lean that way forever), I'm *always* next to a small river sparkling in sunlight, and I can *see* this scene playing out. I can feel it -- I think I'm one of the children, actually. That has always happened to me with this song. It's like I'm very gently stoned, the way a buzz takes over my brain -- as if I'm outdoors in the sun and bees are buzzing and I'm drowsing, eyes getting heavy, until I'm far, far away.
Then Bob Dylan's "Boots of Spanish Leather" with its earthy thrum usually pulls me back. And on it goes, different moods with each song.
Whoa. *Great* way to have a Friday, eh?

Date: June 27th, 2008 08:37 pm (UTC)And as for YOU, my Friday morning began with me in the shower and every thought reliving various favorite scenes from THoU. Talk about nostalgia. No, not *those* scenes! Things like Pip almost fatally falling asleep in a snow-covered shed, and running from grouchy uncles with canes at Bilbo's Birthday Party. Just, various.
"When I woke up this morning, you were on my miiiind... " (There's another good old song!)
Hugs and smooches, lovie.
