Seems I spoke... er, or wrote... too soon in my last post. We are again dwelling beneath the ashes and smoke. Tonight's moon, full up in the sky, was a dark orange -- so strange, when usually you only get that effect while it is low to the horizon.

Our latest fire, the Sedgwick Reserve (donated to UCSB by Edie Sedgwick's family, I believe) is burning in the valley behind us. We toured it with Kidlet's 7th grade science class, and it's a beautiful spot... or was. I hope the fire is contained quickly. Back there, it's nature's way -- that's how many of the native plants are propogated. Wildfire is all part of the plan.

All the southland fires going on today, though -- that's a way different story. Some were set deliberately, others caused by downed power lines, and the Santa Ana winds are blowing and blowing. The Malibu fire started down the street from my brother's old house. They sold it earlier this year and moved to Palm Springs, and boy are we glad. Not so good for the new owners... we don't know if the house was burned or not, but if so, I'll be very sad. It was (is?) a beautiful home and we had many fun gatherings there.

I have cousins in San Diego County, friends in Santa Clarita, and a very dear friend in the old Leisure World near El Toro. So far everybody is safe, but I'll have to do some checking tomorrow *frets*.

My heart and my best thoughts are going out to the half million people evacuated in the last two days, and the firefighters and volunteer crews. Bless!

I really hope you're not in any danger, Sally. The fires sound awful. Here's hoping your brother's ex-house survives just fine too.

Stay safe. ::hugs tightly::

Thank you, sweetie! But we're in no danger here at all. The Sedgewick fire, I heard this morning, is just about contained and stayed far back in the back country. And we're a four or five hour drive from San Diego -- maybe about the distance between Leeds and Bournemouth? Or London to Liverpool. LOL! I wanted to come up with a visual image you could relate to!

*Hugs* Glad to see you're back on your own again...

I wasn't then but I am now - she just left! :oD

I'm so glad you're safe and that the fire's contained. I hope that'll be out soon though.

*Hugs* Thank you, Snailie -- but no worries. As I just mentioned to Sarah,
I'm about as far from the San Diego fires as London to Liverpool (300k or so). We're good... just *cough* breathing a little bit of smoke.

My cousin and his wife in San Diego have their truck packed up, ready to evacuate at a moment's notice.

Glad you are out of the line of fire. So to speak.

I hope your cousin will be fine! And thanks -- I'm glad that this time we're out of the line of fire, too.

It is scary and horrible to watch on television. We had been so dry here, thirteen inches short for the year - but this last week, since the fires started in California, it has been rainy and I feel guilty now as I was so whiny about the drought. Nothing at all, when compared to this horror.

*worries*
