Well, first let's get the day's spam out of the way. Then we can all be comfortable, yes? Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] betagoddess, and .

Eh heh heh heh! Awww shucks, and it's the same answer [livejournal.com profile] betagoddess got too! She's been married to her guy for 33 years, and I've been married to mine for 20. Guess this must be part of the reason. Silly quiz! It's got an amazing array of possible results, considering the questions are pretty black & white.

So, news. Well, two weekends ago I went to my cousin's daughter's wedding (that'd be my first cousin once removed, eh?) and got to dance my little feet off, and salsa'd by an expert to boot -- now *that* was a new dance experience! Hot young Latino brother of the groom just guided me expertly through a whole salsa number, complete with swivelling hips and a few really deep, almost-to-the-floor dips. Totally fun! And my sister and my niece and I then went out to the Gaslamp district in San Diego to people-watch until 1 a.m. A ship or three must have been in port, because that was the biggest cruising scene I've ever seen -- scantily clad young women *everywhere*, eyeing and being eyed by equal amounts of young men. It was a really fun girl's-day-out kind of weekend.

However, on the drive back Sunday morning, Peter calls on the cell phone... "Hurry home! We're flooded!" Gah. He'd turned on the dishwasher and then walked into the living room to play his electronic keyboard with his headphones on -- so he never heard the gushing water behind him. It was ten minutes before Kidlet came downstairs, and *she* stood there for about a whole minute taking it all in before she decided to say something. By then the water was an inch from Peter's bare foot, so he was about to find out anyway. Mad activity ensued, with much towel soaking and moving to higher ground (after he shut the water off, of course). We thought we'd been fast enough and saved the floor, but... nope. It's our new laminate (fake wood) flooring, put in just three years ago, and I sure loved it while it lasted. After a call to the insurance company, we found ourselves with half the floor pulled up and enormous blowers and dehumidifiers going night and day for almost a week to dry the place out. Fortunately they've agreed that it wasn't our fault (the pressure regulator outside blew -- it's been happening all over our condo development apparently), so at least we're not going to be out for the cost of another floor again. *Le big sigh* So that first week we moved upstairs, including the bunny and her enclosure plus the two cats and all their food and litter, and just sort of endured. Fortunately it was Thanksgiving week so we bailed after two days for our annual pilgrimage to the homes of two mothers. Got back Sunday to find the blowers still going, and they didn't get them out until Tuesday, I think.

We won't get the flooring going until January, so this whole holiday season will be spent with most of the floor torn up off the cement pad, dishes stacked on the counters, furniter shoved over to the far wall, and everything covered with the dust and dirt blown up by the blowers. We're not going to even try to get a tree or decorate -- I think my Christmas/Hannukah season will be reflected in my icons online and our trip to New York. I figure we'll get a tiny little tree for our hotel room. And isn't it fortunate that this is the first time *ever* we've decided to leave home during the holidays? The serendipitous way that things fell out amazes me.

Meanwhile here at work we're getting more and more applications every day -- from now until our deadline on the 15th I'll be as busy as a bee. And even busier after that... This is where I usually announce that my presence online will be even scarcer, right through until May when recruitment is over. I'll do my best to be here because I really miss y'all when I'm not on very much... *hugs entire flist at once*
