- british fiction:
Ah, this came about when I finally settled on English as my college major (and let's not go into how long that took, or how many other majors I bounced around). I fell in love with 19th century British fiction in my survey course, when we read Pride and Prejudice and Emma and Dombey and Son, and others. I ended up reading all the Austen books, and lots (but not all) of the Dickens, and whatever else caught my fancy. And if you count Chaucer in the mix, well, he's my main man. Shakespeare and the poets, yep yep yep. *Loves* - chocolate:
Self-explanatory. Milk chocolate, no nuts. Pure and simple or divine and decadent. It's part of my Weight Watchers regime -- nothing keeps me from my chocolate. - dancing:
This has been explained ad nauseum in my journal. I'm a dancer. If I go too long without dancing, it's like being deprived of air. - fanfic:
Ooooh, my drug of choice. And if I can have chocolate while I'm reading my fanfic, it's total bliss. Started out with LOTR fiction, learned about slash, somehow migrated over to the joys of Jim & Blair in The Sentinel fandom. Best mid-life crisis *EVAH*. - guitar playing:
My first love, my first lover, was a guitar-playing minstrel 10 years my senior when I was 16. He completely captured my heart playing the guitar and singing to me. *Swoons* I tried to learn to play, really I did -- he helped me pick out a very nice guitar which I still have and still love. I finally took lessons for a few years just a while back, and made some good progress. Age and a lifetime of typing are catching up with me, though, and I quit when my hands started hurting too much to finger the frets. I'll keep trying though -- can't let a little thing like arthritis keep me down. - literature:
It's one of the things that makes life worth living. #1 is just a part of it -- there's all the sci fi and fantasy, the mystery novels, the classics, the ancients, poetry, plays (I adore reading plays), the historical romances sometimes, the modern and contemporary novels, the South American magical realists, the French, the Africans, oh, on and on and on. And now the fanfic too. *Purrrrr* - music:
Another thing that makes life worth living -- this meme has hit on some of the biggest topics in my interests! I'm terribly eclectic in my musical tastes -- rock and pop, folk and international, classics and modern, jazz and barbershop and swing, some country, some gospel, some Broadway. Even rap and hip-hop get my interest. - poetry:
Poetry rocks! - renaissance faires:
Eh heh, yet another thing the First Love led me into. Captured my fancy right away, like stepping into another era and a big chance to play pretend. I love to dress up and put on an accent. Great place to get good and tipsy, too. Always wanted to be a performer and stay after hours for the campfires and revelry. Holds my heart as the first place I ever saw belly dancing, too. *smile* - singing:
Something I love and have done alone in cars and showers, but it took me almost a lifetime to learn to sing out loud with others. I took voice lessons for many years, which was a huge help. But I'll never have any kind of great voice -- just enough to get by with amongst true friends.
