11:30 p.m. Sunday: 14 1/2 skirts done. I am dead. Okay, I just feel like I *should* be dead. *g* I do like to exaggerate.

By "done", of course, you must understand that I mean that Phase 2 is done. That was the hardest and most tedious part -- gathering the basting threads and then fitting the gathers to each waistband and basting it all together. There's a real technique to adjusting gathers, inch by painful inch creeping along and pulling up the waistband to smooth and tug the gathers into place to avoid those weird overlaps or catching the wrong bit of fabric in. You seamstresses know what I mean (I found myself wishing heartily for [livejournal.com profile] kelbebop's costuming talents midway through!). The next phase involves each girl getting a final fitting, then stitching the waistband down, sewing in some velcro, and hemming the ones that other moms can't do. But that will be a piece of cake, comparatively.

I couldn't stick it out all day -- took Kidlet this evening to see "Pride and Prejudice". What a great rendition of a great Jane Austen novel! I could never get enough Jane Austen. Makes me long to live in England, every time. *Sigh* It was a lovely way to escape the whole overwhelming project for awhile.

Soon I'll have my life back -- yay!
