Eeep! Where does the time go? Seems like I just posted a few days ago, but it's been almost two weeks.

Kidlet's performance in Grease was *awesome* -- and that's not just my bias as a proud parent, nope. Some guy who claimed to be in the film industry told us she stole the show, and lots of people were commenting on her performance. She was really funny, being the bad girl, rolling her eyes and chewing gum (except, it turns out she was chewing on her *tongue* the whole show, because of course with all the singing and dancing she really couldn't have gum). I hadn't seen any of the rehearsals, so was totally impressed during the show. And in the big dance number she was amazing, with the aerials and swing dancing, and all I could think was "That's my girl!" *Glows*

We had a busy, busy weekend in L.A. -- father-in-law's 80th birthday party, for one. I pulled together a pretty nice photo album for him, a trial run of my new interest in this so-called "scrapbooking" stuff. Actually it's the easiest way to do photos I've seen -- I hate messing with those magnetic pages or photo corners, which is why a lifetime of pictures are still in boxes and drawers. Choose a background paper, use a gluestick to stick the photos down, add a comment or two, and slide the page into the top-loading pocket -- easy, really. Lots of family, slideshows of his traveling and army days -- pretty nice for a change, and staying in the hotel instead of with relatives made it more relaxing. Sunday we all hired a boat to take Uncle B.'s ashes to sea. I've never seen this done before and in my mind always envisioned just scattering the ashes over the waves. But my mother-in-law had them in a tidy basket covered with cloth, and after we each dropped a flower on top it was all lowered gently into the sea. The flowers remained floating on top while the basket sank quickly -- a bit eerie, watching it disappear. None of it made me feel at all sad; in fact, I couldn't help wondering if Uncle B. would be amused or outraged at having his last earthly remains encased in a basket.

One of the best things about the weekend was the result of Kidlet's new-found passion for theater. She got us to buy her the original cast recording of Rent and our trip to L.A. was just long enough to hear the entire two CD's worth of the show. I am in *love* with Rent! And amazed that I've never heard the music before; it's been out since about 1996, I think. We all want to see that show!
