Ahhhhhh, chai...
In desperate need of caffeine here! The applications jumped from 56 to 75 *overnight* -- wahhh! And with a week to go until the deadline, this bespeaks another landmark year. WHY do all the academic deadlines have to fall just as the holiday season is starting? No wonder I haven't sent Christmas cards in seven years -- that's how long I've been at this job. And whilst I'm thinking of it, this is the time of year when I apologize in advance for disappearing for long lengths of time -- like unitl May. I'll do my best to stay in touch when I can.
Also: I am rather taken by the charming oddness of Kidlet singing the modern rock tune "Feliz Navidad" in her Victorian caroling costume... it conveys a certain cross-cultural juxtaposition and time-continuum abnormality of a decidedly quirky aesthetic. Or sommat. Yes, I've been reading grad student writings entirely too much lately! Bwah.
I need a Christmas icon.

stealborrow it, if you're sure you don't mind. I also found an LJ community called christmasicons and there are some beauties there -- go look! And eh, I always manage to get through the application process... somehow. Meh. Pass the tea (:::whispers::: not coffee though, I never acquired the taste...).

Thanks for the name of that community. I'm taking a look through it now, then I'm going to upload the ones I've made. Not that they compare to a lot of them - some of those icons are beautiful!

I just use printkey to grab whatever portion of a picture I want and to resize it, and Paint to add text. If you click on 'image' (at the top of the page in Paint) and uncheck the 'draw opaque' you can add text to a drawing without putting a huge block of white behind the words.
And most of my icons are on LJ, so just click here (http://www.livejournal.com/allpics.bml?user=arnie1967) to go to my icons page. Um...assuming I've done it right. They're all marked as to who they're by. Feel free to take any of mine you like. :oD

And your icons are *amazing* -- you've made some great ones. I love the Bert and Ernie ones -- they're so Jim and Blair.

Feel free to pinch any of mine you like.
And I don't blame you for depending on your husband for computer-y stuff. If I had a choice, I'd depend on someone else for it too. :oD

Or if you want any icons making, let me know. :o)
