It's hot, and lazy, and dim today. We're having a heat wave which, actually, isn't so bad here at work because we're on a spit of land jutting out into the ocean and get the breezes. Going home (only about eight minutes away by car and just a couple of miles away from the sea) it gets much hotter, and miserable at night. Those breezes make *all* the difference. It's dim because we're doing the saving-electricity thing again to prevent rolling blackouts, so we work with our lights off in the afternoon (and everything else that can be turned off).

Dang, I really meant to get next year's TAships assigned today, but had to handle some other things (and take time out for my journal *g*). Even in the heart of summer, there's plenty to do around here. *Sigh*

Kidlet's performance of "Grease" is this weekend, so we'll be hosting lots of relatives. Two of the cousins are sleeping over on Sunday too. My online time will be limited.

Took Kidlet to see "Bride and Prejudice" on Thursday, here on campus -- I really wanted to see it on a big screen, and it had already left the regular venues. We were *delighted* with it! I'm growing even more fond of Bollywood flicks. I've only seen a couple, and this was Kidlet's first. OMG, the *colors* in their clothing! The fabulous dancing! The gorgeous Indian actors (and the Americans weren't half bad, either)! And, bliss beyond belief, a Jane Austen story to boot. I'm so glad I could introduce Kidlet to this genre -- she really liked it too. She was especially pleased that Alexis Bledell had a part -- her heroine from The Gilmore Girls.

Oh, and I've recovered from my whinging of a few days back (over traveling with Peter and Kidlet). We've decided that we *are* going to be a bit serendipitous about our upcoming trip, and not make all the reservations for every campground. We'll play it by ear going down the Oregon coast, and camp where we damn well feel like it. *Huggles* Peter and loves him for proving me wrong once again. [livejournal.com profile] klostes, we're talking two weeks here until our departure (well, three until we meet up with you) -- are you ready for us??! CanNOT wait...! *Squeeee!*

Be sure to take pictures at the performance!

Did you guys get that rain yesterday? It was so weird... Zack kept telling me "no, mom, it doesn't rain in the summer" and then about 20 minutes later, it started to pour. Hee.

We did, out at the coast, south of Santa Cruz! We were just picnicking in the beach, minding our own business, when drips turned to POURING! The one day all summer it rains, and I'm camping. Go figure.

Darn it, Zack is right. It's NOT supposed to rain in the summer, at least no down here.

Sally, I know your weather for camping will be good, because this year can't possibly have any more rainy weather in California OR Oregon! We've used up the quota!

I was worried about you guys, but assumed if anyone would be prepared to handle unexpected and inclimate weather, it'd be a pirate and her crew.

Oh! I just posted a reply to Molly about the niceness of summer rain -- but this sounds like something else entirely. Sorry you got drenched! And forgive me, but I hope you're right, and that was the summer quota for the year... Hope it was fun, otherwise.

No rain, although today is looking quite muggy. Peter says we're catching the fallout from Hurrican Emily, so we may yet get some here. Summer rain... nice.
