Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] klostes -- Edinburgh!

LOL, I was just catching up some in LJ, reading waaaay back on my friends page... OMG,[livejournal.com profile] linaelyn and the gun in the grocery store, and [livejournal.com profile] daisy_gamgee posting an adorable THoU-canon picture, and [livejournal.com profile] klostes writing about her trip to Edinburgh -- that last is what inspired this post. In her second travel journal entry, she mentioned how very nice the tourist-bus drivers are in Edinburgh. Heeee! I can attest to that. In 1978 my brother and I, after seeing the castle and the main touristy street that led from it (the Royal Mile? something like that), did a Very Touristy Thing. We went on a bus ride to Dalhousie Court, one of those... heh... medieval banquet places. We were met by a bagpiper outside, and piped in to be greeted by ladies in medieval (or pseudo-medieval) costumes. Then we had a several-course, supposedly-authentic meal, with a different wine or mead served with every "remove". No flatware, of course -- we were Medieval! We ate with our fingers! And boy, did we get drunk. So at the end of the evening, the considerably-merrier group of tourists piled back on the bus to town. And there's me and my brother in the backmost seat, belting out "You take the high road and I'll take the low road" all the way back... Oh yes, my point here? The bus driver recognized that we were in no shape to be dropped off in the center of town to make our way back to wherever we were staying. So after everyone else disembarked, he asked where we were staying and drove us right to the door of the youth hostel. Now, is that one of the nicest things ever, or what???

*Snicker* That was a good drunk that night -- no bad repercussions the next day at all. No, it took HobbitCon 2005 at [livejournal.com profile] linaelyn's house to get me so drunk I barfed (discreetly, by myself, in the middle of the night, in the toilet, thank you very much) for the very first time in my life. Dang, another cherry busted...

LOL! Sounds like a great guy, I think we may have had the same driver. You have the best travel stories, still!

Nah, not at all. I mean, there's you, soaking up atmosphere and really *connecting* to the place, having vivid and deep impressions, and then there's me, committing song abuse. No comparison.
