Random randomness

We're having more rain this season (so I've been told) than Seattle. Whoa -- that's so unbelievable! But it makes for cozy fireplace-lit evenings. I just looked out at my little patio planter-box garden, which I had cleaned out in discouragement mid-winter, thinking I'm never planting vegetables again. Five pea pods and one burst of chard just aren't worth it. But hey, it's getting all filled up with volunteers, with all this rain! There are even some marigolds springing up. I *love* the freedom and spontaneity of garden volunteers.

Today was the last day of Winter quarter, for which I'm heartily thankful. It's been one of the hardest quarters of my whole 17 years on the job. As I told my supervisor yesterday, the highs and lows of it have been swinging wider than my moods lately. It started out with that awful grievance-thingy that had me so devastated, and then yesterday I got an email announcing that I was nominated, and selected, to be one of this year's Unsung Heroines on campus, sponsored by Professional Women's Association. Which, of course, fills me with embarrassment, because *all* the staff deserve recognition and it's awfully hard to be singled out for praise. They're going to interview me and take my picture for their annual publication --eep! Major embarrassment.

I am reading yet another book, one I picked up in Alaska last summer. It's called, simply enough, Two Old Women and it's apparently based on a local legend.

And my last word is this: pressies for HobbitCon! Whoot!

*Smile* Pressies, yay!

I have something for the all the big girls and all the little girls, but I can't think of anything for Zack and Sam! Can you give me any ideas???

Daisy could probably give you better suggestions for Sam - I know he still loves monkeys, and rabbits now as well. He also likes Legos (what boy his age doesn't?). Other than that, I don't know...

Zack's still really into trains, and Legos. He likes Harry Potter, pretty much anything Disney, and is completely into art. His favorite thing right now is to make paper models. Construction paper and tape - you wouldn't believe how much of it we go through. My best friend gave him a big package of tape for his birthday, he was positively chuffed.
